Download Manager causes your IP address to be blacklisted for a while

We had a report from an Embeetle user that he couldn’t access the server when pressing the CREATE PROJECT button in the Home Window:

It turns out that his IP address was blacklisted for a 24h period, because he had used a Download Manager to download Embeetle. The Download Manager triggered our DDoS attack protection mechanism, because it launches several download requests almost simultaneously.

We’re working on a solution. Meanwhile, we suggest the following:

  • Avoid the use of Download Managers.

  • If you encounter the problem, please use a VPN such that you connect to our server with a different IP address. That should solve the issue during the 24h period your IP address is blacklisted.

  • Contact us in case you need further assistance.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Yes, I can confirm that, I tried making a youtube tutorial on how to use the Embeetle IDE with an Arduino because i hadnt find any but it didnt go as planned :joy: .

Hi @Ze_e ,
Sorry for the inconvenience.
I’ll forward this to my colleague Johan. Meanwhile, could you use a VPN that changes your IP address?

I’d also like to know which download manager you used. So we can reproduce the issue.

Kind regards,
Kristof.

Download managers tend to make use of partial downloads if possible. Our server advertised that it supports partial downloads, but actually, it didn’t, due to our DDoS protection mechanism.

For now, I changed the settings so that it no longer advertises that it supports partial downloads. This is not ideal for download managers, but at least it should work,

Later, the plan is to modify the DDoS protection so that partial downloads are correctly supported.
